Since 1921
Founded in 1921 as a bird feed and pet supply store in Hamilton, OH, Al-Joe's has been gladly serving the area with their lawn & garden needs for over 100 years.
Al-Joe's is founded by Al Huesman and Joe Huber, who open their first location at 19 Main St. in Hamilton, OH.
In those early days they focused solely on bird supplies and pet birds, such as canaries and parrots. Their pet selection would grow in the following years.
The company would prove to be successful, and even survive the Great Depression.

Over the next 14 years, Al-Joe's Bird Store made several moves around downtown Hamilton.
1924: Moves out of Main St. and into 17 N. Third St.
1934: Moves into 23 S. Third St., which would later become the Journal News Building.
They also began carrying even more pets, such as monkeys, turtles and fish.
Al-Joe's moves to 309 Court St.
During this period the company expanded beyond just pet products and began carrying garden seeds and supplies, thanks to the growing popularity of Victory Gardens during WWII.
Joe also left the company during this time to help in the factories during the war.
Court St. would remain the home of Al-Joe's until 1968.

The store at 1137 Magie Ave. in Fairfield was the first expansion location in the company's history.
It would remain open until 1979.

Al-Joe's moves out of downtown Hamilton and into 173 N. Brookwood Ave.
During this time the company began to focus more on power equipment and lawn and garden products. This also marked the end of Al-Joe's selling live animals.
Brookwood Ave. remains the home of Al-Joe's Pet & Garden to this day.

Al-Joe's Lawn and Garden opened its first West Chester location in the Union Center Pavilion.
Thanks to our success in the area, plans were made to build a space of our own.

Al-Joe's Lawn and Garden moves into our new location on Princeton-Glendale Rd.
